While perusing Pinterest lately i have come across tons of wall hangings. I must admit i am not great at keeping up with trends or fashions, i like what i like. However since i have come across them, i have spotted them all over the place. Even my sister has one! Check out these i found on Pinterest...
A coupe of weekends ago we got invited to a 1st Birthday party for one of our friends daughters. Its always hard to know what to gift for birthdays, but i know this couple love their modern and chic interiors so i thought a wall hanging might be a nice addition to her nursery.
I accumulated the ideas i got from Pinterest to design my own crochet wall hanging. Where ever possible i like to customize my crochet so i decided to use her name as the starting point. Now i must admit, this part was tricky! It took me just as long to work out the pattern for crocheting the name than it did to actually make it. But i think it was pretty successful!

Once i had figured out the name part, i let the creative juices flow and just winged it! I chose some different stitches which would create different textures and patterns, alternating the colours. This was a fairly small piece of work, so if i was making a larger one you could really go all out! Once i was happy with the length, i finished it off with some tassels using all the colours. It was then easy to sew the top of the hanging onto a piece of wooden dowel (thank you husband for providing it!) and making a longer piece of yarn in order for it to be hung up.
I enjoyed making the wall hanging and will definitely make some more in the future. I like that they can be customized to the recipient, or just neutral and suitable for anyone. I may have a go at making one for our own house and experiment with a more macrame style with knotting and more loose hanging yarn. I have seen some amazing ones using unspun wool which would be really interesting, just need to find a Dubai supplier of it!
